At Lucent Recovery and Wellness, we built something different. We’re a clinician-owned, master’s-level Mental Health Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) based in Austin, and we proudly serve adults who travel from Richardson and the wider Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex to access a level of care they simply can’t find closer to home.
WHO WE SERVE: CONDITIONS WE TREAT
Our team works with adults experiencing a range of mental health and co-occurring challenges, including:
Getting Here
Making the Trip from Richardson to Austin
From Richardson it's about three hours to Austin, either straight down I-35 or via the tollway to 130. Most clients drive. DFW and Love Field are both reachable and flights are short, but once you factor in the airport itself, driving is usually simpler.
The thing worth doing the arithmetic on is total travel over the life of a program. A local IOP might mean thirty or forty round trips across eight to twelve weeks, most of them through peak traffic on Central Expressway. Coming to Austin and staying in our transitional housing means two trips.
We arrange housing before your first clinical day so you're not solving logistics and starting treatment in the same week. Our case management team handles the setup.
The Route
Richardson, TX
Start point. I-35E or the Dallas North Tollway south to 130.
Roughly 3 hours
Flights from DFW or Love Field run under an hour in the air, though airport time usually closes the gap.
Austin, TX
Programming and transitional housing, arranged before your first clinical day.
Total travel over one programSame clinical commitment, very different number of trips.
Worth knowing: if driving down alone feels like a lot on the front end, say so during your assessment. It is a common concern and there are usually workable answers.
Who Comes to Us
Who We Typically See from Richardson
A lot of the people who find us from Richardson work in engineering, software, telecom, or adjacent technical fields. That shapes how they arrive.
What we notice first
They arrive having already done the research
They know what CBT is. They've read about DBT. They've often tried to build a system around it, tracking sleep, adjusting caffeine, scheduling exercise, applying the same diagnostic instincts they'd apply to a failing build. Some have been doing this for years.
What we usually find
The effort wasn't wrong. It just has a ceiling.
Self-directed effort gets people a long way. Past a certain point what's needed is frequency, structure, and another trained person in the room who can see what you can't see from the inside. That's not a failure of intelligence or discipline.
It's the difference between debugging your own code and having someone review it.
Ask us the hard questions. We're comfortable being asked about clinical reasoning. Every therapist on our team holds a master's degree in a mental health field, and if you want to understand why we're recommending something, we'll explain it rather than ask you to trust the process.
What Is a Mental Health Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)?
An IOP offers a middle ground between weekly therapy and full-time residential care. It provides comprehensive support while allowing you to live at home and continue with everyday responsibilities.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the IOP program?
Most clients attend for 8 to 12 weeks, depending on their clinical needs and progress.
Can I keep working or going to school while in the program?
Yes. Our flexible scheduling is designed to accommodate your professional and personal responsibilities.
Do I need a referral to enroll?
No referral is needed. You can contact us directly for a confidential assessment.
Is the program covered by insurance?
Lucent Recovery accepts most major insurance plans. Our team will verify your coverage and walk you through the process before you start.
What makes Lucent different from Richardson-area IOP programs?
Our master’s-level-only clinical team, small program size, holistic and experiential programming, LGBTQIA+ affirming care, and transitional housing for traveling clients set us apart from the larger hospital-based and franchise programs serving Richardson and the Telecom Corridor.
What happens after IOP?
After completing our IOP, many clients continue into our step-down transitional services or move to ongoing individual counseling or coaching with their clinician.
How do most Richardson clients get to Austin?
Most drive. It’s roughly a three hour trip down I-35 or the tollway to 130. Some fly out of Love Field or DFW, though airport time usually closes the gap on a drive that short. If you’re staying in our transitional housing, you only make that trip at the start and end of your program rather than every week.
I work in Richardson and my whole professional network is here. Will anyone find out I'm in treatment?
We understand why that matters in a corridor this tightly networked. Your participation is protected health information and we don’t disclose it to employers, colleagues, or anyone else without your written authorization. Being two hundred miles away adds a practical layer of separation that many of our clients from dense corporate corridors tell us made the decision easier.
Can I keep managing a team remotely while I'm in the program?
Some clients do, and some find that stepping back is the point. Our programming runs several days a week and leaves real time around it, so limited remote work is possible. During your assessment we’ll talk honestly about whether staying plugged in will support your treatment or compete with it.
I've read a lot about therapy approaches. Will I be able to have a real clinical conversation about my treatment plan?
Yes, and we’d encourage it. Every clinician on our team holds a master’s degree in a mental health field, and we’re comfortable explaining why we’re recommending a particular modality, what the evidence behind it looks like, and how we’ll know whether it’s working. Your plan gets revisited regularly rather than set once and left alone.
I'm on an H-1B or employer-sponsored visa. Does taking medical leave for treatment put that at risk?
This is a question we hear often from Richardson clients and it’s a fair one. We’re not immigration attorneys and we can’t advise on visa status, so please talk to one. What we can tell you is that our case management team routinely helps clients coordinate documentation for employer leave processes, and we’ll work with whatever your situation requires.
What if my symptoms don't look like a crisis? I'm still functioning.
Most of the adults we work with are still functioning, often at a high level. The word “intensive” describes how structured and frequent the program is, not how severe your condition has to be. If your mental health is costing you your relationships, your focus, or your sense of yourself, that’s reason enough to talk to someone about level of care.
